Granite countertops have certainly been all the rage in kitchen fad for the last several years – but have you ever wondered what other choices are available? If you are looking for something a little more unique, but that still has the high-class look and benefits of granite, you may want to consider a counter made from quartz. Quartz countertops are becoming more popular because there are so many health and cost benefits.
Highly Heat Resistant
How many times have you accidentally placed a hot pan or plate onto your counter only to realize that you now have a scorch mark on it? With quartz counters you don't have to worry about placing burns, as these types of countertops are highly heat resistant. The surface of quartz countertops will generally not burn or be left with scorch marks when it comes in contact with other materials that are very hot. Be aware, though, that constant high heat exposure to the same spot or a shock to the surface from extreme cold to hot may cause stains in some instances.
The Surface is Nonporous
Unlike granite counters and other natural stone materials, quartz countertops have a nonporous surface. This means if you spill a drink on the surface the quartz will not absorb the liquid. With porous surfaces, stains are easy to come by and most of them can never fully be cleaned off the surface. This is not true for quartz countertops, as stains can easily be cleaned with soap and water and you don't have to worry about the stain being absorbed by the stone.
Because the quartz material is non porous, this also cuts down on bacteria that may live on kitchen surfaces. You can simply wipe up the mess and not have to worry about bacteria possibly living in the counter from spilled food. Also, a quartz counter never needs to be sealed like other stone counters do since it is a nonporous material.
Durable and Flexible
Quartz is much more durable and flexible when compared to other stones such as granite and marble. It is less likely to chip and crack when heavy objects are placed on it. They are also more resistant to scratching from things such as knives and other kitchen utensils, although a cutting board is still recommended.
Since quartz countertops are more durable and flexible, they are more likely to last longer than other surfaces, so you can be sure you will get your money's worth from the counter! If for some reason, your quartz counter does get chipped or you get a bad scratch in it, it is much easier to replace a section than if you had a granite or marble surface.
Plenty of Colors To Choose From
When you look at quartz counters it may surprise you at just how many colors there are available to you. A counter made with 95% ground quartz crystal and polymer resins is just as strong as a single slab of quartz, but will give you the opportunity to choose from a wide range of colors. Most people like to match their counters to the overall color theme of their kitchen. Choose from patterns with browns, tans, reds, blacks, greens, and blues. There is sure to be a pattern or color that matches your style perfectly!
