In 2006 the National Park Centennial Initiative was launched with the goal of involving park administrators, citizens, and conservation experts in a massive project to improve the nation's already stunning array of protected lands.
In 2008 alone, over $50 million has been invested in 76 of our parks. This money is earmarked to improve educational opportunities, recruit and train a new generation of park employees, promote environmentally friendly park operation as an inspiration to the rest of the country, and improve recreational opportunities for park visitors.
